Evidence and checks
RAI reviewed the supplied photograph of the PT. Belibis Papua Mandiri harbour notice on 10 October 2026. The notice states that fares take effect on 1 September 2026. The photograph's capture date is not confirmed; this review is not a live confirmation of today's sailings.

Buy or confirm your ferry ticket at the departure port’s official ticket counter. Ask about check-in, the boarding deadline, identification, baggage and any extra charges. A ferry ticket does not include your separate island transfer.
The Rp. 125.000 fare requires an original Indonesian identity card (KTP) showing residence in Raja Ampat Regency, presented at the ticket counter for verification. One KTP may be used for one ticket. Without the required original KTP, the general fare applies.
From the airport to the ferry
In Sorong, ask for Pelabuhan Rakyat, the passenger ferry harbour for Waisai. In Waisai, ask for the ferry terminal for Sorong. Confirm the terminal and meeting point with your accommodation; an island pickup can use a different jetty.
The drive from the airport to Sorong’s public ferry port commonly takes around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic. A taxi is usually the simplest choice with luggage or diving equipment.
RAI planning guidance
As a planning allowance, aim to reach the counter 60–90 minutes before departure. This is RAI's recommendation, not the operator's check-in deadline. Confirm that deadline, seats, identification, payment method, baggage and separate charges before travelling.
Ferry arrival & your pickup
Before sailing, save your driver’s name, phone number, boat photo, meeting point and total fare. After arrival, contact your accommodation and confirm the boat and destination before boarding. If nobody arrives, wait at an agreed landmark and arrange a backup through your accommodation.
If your pickup is missing
- Send your accommodation your ferry name, actual arrival time and a photo of where you are waiting.
- Ask terminal staff to help you contact the accommodation. Verify the replacement driver and boat with your host before boarding.
- If an onward transfer cannot be arranged, ask for a city overnight and a confirmed pickup the next day.
If you arrive late or the ferry changes
Ask the counter whether a later sailing is confirmed and whether seats remain. Tell your accommodation immediately and rearrange the island pickup. If there is no confirmed onward journey, arrange an overnight stay in Sorong; do not pay for an unconfirmed replacement boat. If a sailing is cancelled, ask the operator about ticket changes or refunds.
Returning to Sorong before a flight
Plan the island boat, Waisai boarding, ferry, transfer to the airport and airline check-in as separate stages. Returning to Sorong the day before your flight provides more protection against delays. Do not treat a listed ferry departure as a guaranteed airport arrival time.
Confirm your island pickup time, Waisai arrival, ferry ticket and boarding deadline the day before departure. Agree who pays for delays and extra luggage. Leave a buffer in Sorong before your flight; an overnight stop is the more cautious choice when a missed connection would be costly.
- Get the route and total price in writing: per person or whole boat, one-way or return, fuel, crew and luggage included.
- Confirm enough suitable lifejackets, passenger capacity and dry storage for luggage. Tell the operator about children and mobility needs.
- For a shared boat, agree the minimum number of passengers, waiting limit and what happens if someone cancels.
Cash, ATMs & currency exchange
Budget for unpaid accommodation, boat transfers, activities, permits, meals and a contingency reserve; subtract deposits already paid. Ask each operator what must be paid in cash. Carry enough for those costs, rather than an arbitrary large amount.
