Understand the differences

Raja Ampat homestays are commonly family-run guest bungalows rather than rooms inside a family home. Facilities vary, and many have limited generator hours. A resort is a different service model, but its label alone does not establish facilities. A liveaboard combines accommodation with a vessel’s operating route; check its actual schedule, activities and boarding arrangements.

RAI’s questions before paying
  • Which room is being reserved? Ask for recent photos, bed arrangements, ventilation and mosquito protection.
  • Is the bathroom private or shared? What water, shower and toilet facilities are available?
  • Which meals and drinking water are included? Can your dietary needs be met reliably?
  • What are the electricity hours and internet arrangements?
  • Which transfers and activities are included, and which require an extra charge?
  • How are medical needs, mobility limitations and cancellations handled?
Match expectations early

Describe non-negotiable needs in writing. For serious allergies or a condition requiring dependable facilities, discuss suitability with your clinician and the property before booking. Ask about activity availability on your exact dates, including community rest or worship days.

Check the menu, not only “meals included”

Ask what breakfast, lunch and dinner usually contain, how often the menu changes and whether substitutions cost extra. “Full board” describes included meals, not an unlimited choice. A resort restaurant and a local homestay kitchen can offer very different experiences.
